Detroit 3 Revive Push On Mileage
Detroit's auto chieftains are revving up a new round of calls on the
White House and Capitol Hill to head off new mileage and emissions
rules they say will cost automakers millions and autoworkers their
jobs.
General Motors chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner met with senior Bush Administration officials this week, while Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally plans a series of meetings in Washington next week. Meanwhile, Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli may be heading into town soon, following last week's meeting between Chrysler vice chairman and president Jim Press and the head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
